Thank you for downloading! ------------- INTRODUCTION: ------------- This is version 2.0 of the WWI Austin Mk II aromoured vehicle released on the 17th July 2001 by me. Since then I have improved various parts of the vehicle so they are either more realistic or corrected completely ------------- INSTALLATION: ------------- Copy the "media" folder unzipped with this download archive, and paste it over your existing "media" folder in SDOE's installation directory. Everything should go into the right place. There is no need to add any lines to any files assuming you have the following added to your keyboard.inp file (which is inside the main SDOE installation directory, add these lines if you haven't got them added already: cmdCanopyToggle = Q cmdWingFoldToggle = W The above commands will enable you to "button" and "unbutton" the vehicle and with this update, the 'W' key will raise and lower the radiator armour plate. See the training missions for more information. ------------- UPDATES: ------------- Version 2.0 has the following updates: - Fixed the engine so it starts quicker and runs better. - Driver's windscreen panel opens upwards now instead of downwards. This is more realistic. - The radiator armour panel now opens with a seperate key command to the cabin armour panels, see installation section above and Training missions for more information. - Gunsights for gun turret are improved so you can see the tracers better -Fixed a known problem when vehicle is made a mission objective, it is counted as "destroyed" when the mission starts even when the vehicle is untouched. - AI will now drive in "Auto-pilot" mode (press P while driving). I was unable to strengthen or stiffen the suspension because the vehicle was shaking and shuddering when stopped so I had to leave the current settings. Unfortunately, I am unable to stop part of the vehicle from sinking into the ground when it tips over. I have set the collision points correctly from what I can tell but it still refuses to work...I have no idea why. :( ------------- KEY FEATURES: ------------- The Austin MKII is built for SDOE in a way that takes best advantage of SDOE's excellent physics and damage modelling as much as possible. This vehicle features among others, some pretty ground breaking Damage Model (DM) features. The most interesting features are listed and described below: - Bullet resistant glass: The Austin MKII is equipped with bullet resistant glass fitted in the armour slits that will resist bullet hits to a certain extent. If too many hits are taken, the glass will break and the driver stands a risk of being hit and killed. Although the chance of getting a round through the narrow slits in the cabin is small, there is still a chance. :) The gun turrets offer no glass protection in their view slits though. - Realistic armour protection and damage model: Having bullet resistant glass is nothing if the rest of the vehicle has no realistic armour is it? The Austin MKII comes with realstic armour values for the cabin and the rest of the vehicle too. Ordinary machine gun rounds from a standard WWI fighter will do nothing, however a well-dropped bomb will do wonders. The AustinMKII has an armour plate-protected front radiator. The armour plate can be opened to expose the radiator and encourage better engine cooling, however in battle situations, keeping the radiator exposed will increase the chance of having the engine overheating and seizing if the radiator is damaged heavily. - Realistic ground handling: The Austin MKII is a top heavy vehicle, two tall turret cylinders hanging off either side of the vehicle! The wheels are skinny wooden devices that are set as close to the chassis as possible. The Training missions will explain in detail how to best drive this 8,800 pound beast, but it's not to be treated with carelessness!! Extreme attention should be given when driving to avoid disaster. There are many other features that you will no doubt appreciate in this vehicle, but there's no need to spoil them all here. ;) ------------- SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: ------------- Other than having SDOE installed, you will also need the Nations v2 add-on. This add-on will add extra nations to your copy of SDOE and because this Austin is a Soviet vehicle, you will need Nations installed to see this vehicle in SDOE. ------------- CREDITS: ------------- Again, this vehicle was the team effort of two people, Scorpion Rouge modelled the basic structure of the vehicle and came up with most of the textures. I (Harman_5) made it driveable and added a few misc parts and textures here and there. Thanks Scorpion! Here's my email address: Harman_5@dingoblue.net.au ------------- LEGAL: ------------- This vehicle was NOT made by Activision or Parsoft and therefore is NOT supported by them in any way. Please do not ask the said companies for support, information or anything else regarding this add-on. If you have questions or comments, or have a problem, feel free to email me! Address above.
