Thank you for downloading!! And thanks for visiting Harman | Chaps Tankworks! (www.hc-tankworks.com) -------------------------------------------- INTRODUCTION: -------------------------------------------- Chaps and I are proud to present to you, another driveable armored unit for OP-WWI SDOE! This is the British MKIV heavy tank. The British and the French were the first in WWI to develop 'tanks' and use them with varying success in the battlefield. Though slow to pick up on this, the Germans did pick up eventually after deciding that simply capturing the enemy's tanks for their own use wasn't enough and soon they too had an arsenal of armored units of their own to deploy on the battlefield. The 'tank' was thought up because during WWI, more and more obstacles on the battlefield were becoming a menace to soldiers, for example, trenches, and barbed wire twists frequently littered the front and made capturing positions and gaining new ground very difficult and if it was possible with troops alone, a very high loss was usually suffered and this had the effect of depleting the morale of the remaining troops. The tank was, in a way, a blessing to the troops down in the trenches...but to the enemy, they were a living nightmare. The British were the first to use these armored machines on the front and intially, the enemy was terrified by its presence and had nothing in the way of resistance to offer and stop these beasts. Trenches, machine gun positions and barbed wire twists were quickly made obsolete as these new vehicles rolled right through them. Later anti-tank weapons were developed, though the tanks still enjoyed a good record of success. But there were times when some tanks fell to the enemy simply because they were slow and cumbersome and were vulnerable to ambushes if the tank crew weren't wary or had spent their ammo. Perhaps the most useful trick the enemy learned in countering the tank was shooting through the gun and driver view slits...this would almost always cause chaos inside the tank as the rounds bounced off and around the metal interior causing harm and death to the tank crew, and possibly starting a fire because this particular tank had its engine exposed to the crew inside the tank...the worst thing was...other than being a crack sniper, or just having luck, all that was needed to do this was an ordinary rifle issued to infantrymen. By creating driveable WWI tanks for OP-WWI SDOE, we hope to re-create the atmosphere of being in a rickety WWI tank and charging forward toward the enemy, taking positions and important towns, attacking airfields, aircraft and supplies, and generally, fully immerse you in the WWI tanking experience! -------------------------------------------- RECOMMENDED ADD-ONS: -------------------------------------------- The tank itself is stand-alone and does not require any add-ons to run, however, if you wish to run the campaign missions that come with this tank, you MUST have the following installed: - WWI Pack 2 - WWI Pack 2 Patch - Somme Terrain (with latest update) - WWI Mission Builders Pack v1 (ESSENTIAL TO RUN THE CAMPAIGN MISSIONS INCLUDED WITH THIS DOWNLOAD! Get it here: www.hc-tankworks.com) - A7V 'Mephisto' driveable tank (get it from www.hc-tankworks.com) If you need help with all this stuff said here, email me! (address below) For more information on where to get these add-ons, visit: http://ftp2.progeng.com/opwwi/start.asp Also, be sure to visit the WWI Forum at www.fightersquadron.com and also the SDOE Forum at www.simhq.com for more updates and happenings in the wonderful world of OP-WWI! And don't forget to visit the home of driveable WWI tanks and vehicles, the Harman | Chaps Tankworks! www.hc-tankworks.com -------------------------------------------- WHAT YOU GET: -------------------------------------------- A lot of things are included in this add-on. Those static units explained below are provided so you can make your own missions with this vehicle in conjunction with them, however these are also used with the campaign missions that come with this download. To use these units, simply open your mission editor and find them in the Ground Objects section. Credit should go to Chaps for making the missions for the campaign, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you try the missions he's made!! Note: The campaign missions require some extra static units not included in this download. To play the campaign missions that came with this download, please visit www.hc-tankworks.com and download the 'WWI Missions Builders pack v1'. Here's a list of what is installed into SDOE when you install this add-on: - Driveable British MKIV - Authentic interior and exterior modelling, the interior was modelled from real scale model pictures taken from the internet. The interior features instruments, gauges and a fully modelled and animated Daimler 100hp engine that dominates the interior. All gun positions are mannable by you and individual crew position injury and death is modelled too. The tank also travels at a realistic speed...not more than 10mph. - 18 PREMIUM campaign missions done by Chaps! Again, I can't say this enough, Chaps is a mission master! Get the required downloads above and try these missions! You WON'T regret it!! - Static British MKIV - Use static versions of these tanks in missions where you'd like the AI to give you fire support since driveable units under AI control are effectively 'dead' and don't shoot or drive unfortunately. However, static versions of these tanks do engage air and ground targets and driveable units controlled by you also. - Driveable Captured MKIV - Two tanks for the price of one! A fully modelled driveable MKIV as above, but in German markings! In reality, the German forces did use more of these captured MKIVs than their own tanks in WWI, so it was worth modelling this vehicle also. This tank is designated for the German side in SDOE. Note that apart from training and hangar missions, this vehicle doesn't come with any other campaign or singles missions. You are free to make your own however! There are a lot of ready-made static objects waiting for you in the WWI Mission Builders pack for you to fabricate your own exciting scenarios with, just as Chaps has done for the British MKIV! - Static Captured MKIV - Same as the British static unit, however in German markings. Useful for providing German armoured fire support in missions. - MKIV Crew Position chart. VERY useful for switching to specific crew positions in an instant. Print this out! Keep it next to you! It will come in handy! -------------------------------------------- INSTALLATION: -------------------------------------------- 1- Unzip this zip file to your SDOE root directory, not Media! OR: unzip the downloaded zip file to a temporary directory, and manually copy the 'media' folder to your SDOE root directory. (by default, this is: C\Program Files\Fighter Squadron\) 2- Open your sounds.ppf file inside media, add the following lines under the existing lines (note, check the following lines to be sure you're not adding any lines that already exist in you sounds.ppf file! Add only the new lines you see below): sndRifle1 ( parmFilename "Rifle" parmdB 400 parmPriority 150 ) sndRifle2 ( parmFilename "Rifle2" parmdB 400 parmPriority 150 ) sndFrHalt1 ( parmFilename "FrHalt1" parmdB 400 parmPriority 150 ) sndGHalt1 ( parmFilename "GHalt1" parmdB 400 parmPriority 150 ) sndAHalt1 ( parmFilename "AHalt1" parmdB 400 parmPriority 150 ) sndAmbientSound1 ( parmFilename "AmbientSound1" parmdB 400 parmPriority 150 ) sndAmbientSound2 ( parmFilename "AmbientSound2" parmdB 400 parmPriority 150 ) sndAmbientSound3 ( parmFilename "AmbientSound3" parmdB 400 parmPriority 150 ) sndAmbientSound4 ( parmFilename "AmbientSound4" parmdB 400 parmPriority 150 ) 3- Remember to install the WWI Mission Builders Pack version 1.0 before attempting to run the campaign missions included with this download!!!! THIS IS ESSENTIAL! See above for more information on this. That's it! Now start SDOE (running patch 1.5.2.10 is HIGHLY recommended) and have some fun! We recommend you first visit the Training and Hangar sections to get yourself famaliar with the vehicle, then go into the Missions section and choose the MKIV campaign titled "Waltzing Matilda" for some real WWI tank combat! Note: "Waltzing Matilda" was the name of one of the British Heavies used in the war. Throughout the campaign, you will drive different marks (MK I through to MKV) of these tanks, however in reality they were mostly the same tanks apart from some minor improvements (which aren't modelled in-game). For those who aren't aware, it is possible to zoom in and out in ANY view of the tank by pressing [ and ] . This is useful for aiming gun crosshairs more than anything else. -------------------------------------------- CREDITS: -------------------------------------------- Chaps - Once again, as with the tanks we've released earlier, Chaps has been a HUGE help to me. Responsible for the huge number of campaign missions that come with this download, he also showed a lot of initiative when he made the crew position chart that outlines the hotkeys needed to jump to specific crew positions in the tank. Thanks also to Chaps for being a great buddy to and keeping me company during the whole development process and when things got tough! Chaps also supplied me with a whole lot of research/modelling material and historical information to make sure I get this thing right! Cheers! Nat - Nat was the one who originally modelled the MKIV in SDOE. Thanks Nat, you made my job so much easier! Harman_5 - I'm not going to thank myself, but I was responsible for taking Nat's MKIV model and modifying to make it suitable for driveablility and added the engine and running gear to the tank,. With the help of some references from Chaps, I made a new skin for it and decked out the whole tank and interior to what it is now. My thanks go to whoever made the model and texture for the WWI Lewis machine gun also! Thanks! Overall, it has been a great ride guys, Chaps and I hope you get a whole lot of enjoyment from this download, we really busted our humps making it possible! ;-) It's been fun, enjoy!
