**Fokker D.VIII** This aircraft requires the latest FS-WWI Plane Pack to function correctly. Credits for this aircraft go to the following: 3d Model: Sv, ArgonV Texture: Recon3 OpenPlaneStudio Code: Sv, ArgonV Missions: ArgonV GUI: Sv, ArgonV Updated by: ArgonV Old History and past notes/revisions: Fokker DVIII Version 4 by Sv (sean@schoolmusic.com) -------------------------------------------- WWI Pack updates by Charmster. Charm added great Damage Modeling and Flight Modeling. I have misplaced the exact updates though... my desktop is a trash pit! ---------------------------------------------- Here is the Fokker DVIII entry to the OpenPlane Contest. The aircraft was created by: Sv (Sean) Dauntless851 (Mike) The base for this model was the Fokker DR1a by Parsoft (now Inertia Games). Certain sounds are derived from the Red Baron 3D sound pack add-on. Hangar stats come from www.theaerodrome.com Special thanks to Nuum for his friendship and encouragement, it has been (and will continue to be) fun! Nuum also invented the idea and texture for the rotary engine. Keep leading the way Nuum :) Also many thanks to Dauntless851, who's work on the Fokker DVIII is as evident as any of my own; the very esence of the D8 is his work, the textures that make up the aircraft. You can see many other fine examples of Mike's art at the OpenPlane WWI site, including more D8 skins! Mike also sent me the drawings I used to design the D8. Thank you Spanky for pushing me to model the engine in higher detail. Thanks to Bryan Russell for OpenPlane Studio, THE OpenPlane Editor! Thanks to Hippie for the extractor/builder tools and AC3D plugin, the key. Thanks to my own squadmate Private Roger for coming up with the contest idea! Thanks to the whole OpenPlane and SDOE community for all the help along the way, especialy JT and Tailslide! And last but not least, thanks to Parsoft/Inertia for SDOE and more importantly the OpenPlane concept! May there be many more! -Sv The Fokker DVIII was built using the following tools: AC3D, Hippie's Extractor/Builder, Hippie's AC3D plugins, Bryan Russell's OpenPlane Studio, Adobe PhotoShop, GoldWave audio editor, and Microsoft Visual Source Safe. Version 4: The "contest" version. This version includes an update to the elevator to make the plane turn faster. Also included are all of the hangar files, training missions, etc. >>> To install: Unzip the FokkerD8_V4.zip file into your Fighter Squadron\media folder. Or you can unzip it to a new folder you create anywhere, then copy and past that folder's content into your Fighter Squadron\media folder. >>> To fly: You can try out the FokkerDVIII from the hanger or training missions. If you have the SE5a you can also fly a mission in the Word War 1 theater called "FokkerDVIII." You can make your own missions for the Fokker DVIII as well. It's fun! -SV sean@schoolmusic.com >>> Version History Version 3: Inner and outer wing damage ribs added. New rotary engine model. Cockpit mostly done - includes moving control stick and rudder pedals. Low detail LODS added and switch in distances set. Version 2.1 Patch: Fixes AI bug. I had to make break the LWing and RWing into Rwing, RWingTip, LWing, and LWingTip. It seems that OpenPlane requires at least 4 wing parts in order for the AI to bother trying to fly any aircraft. Version 2 --------- - Model: A great new skin from Mike (dauntless851)! This is my favorire scheme. I fixed the 3D bugs, much thanks to JT! Turns out that I had non-planer polys. I triangulated them. It was only a few small areas, so poly count is still OK. Also it turns out I had not snapped some vertecies after all. The seams are fixed. Moved pilot down, along with guns. Created wing struts, wheel struts, wheels, and wheel airfoil. Moved wing back towards the rear and lower to match plans. - Flight Model: Implemented wheel airfoil. Better CG placement. Version 1: This plane used the Parsoft DR1a from the OpenPlane demo as a base. Check out the roatary engine, this is cool! Much thanks to my friend Nuum for his working example and texture! Also as ALWAYS much thanks to Mike (dauntless851) for his sending me the drawing, 3-views, and FM data - as well as encouragement. I can't wait 'till Mike can work on a Fokker DVIII skin :) Also thanks Nuum for sending me about 100 DVIII pics! There are two 3D bugs now that I don't know quite how to fix. 1) There are many little seams you can see through... I was very careful in building it and this was a surprise :( 2) Certain polys (back fuselage deck and wing leading edge to name a few) that disappear at odd times. This sucks :( Basic FM is set up. No detailed FM work at all. There has been no DM work yet. Still need to do: - 3D bug Fix - Cockpit - Wheel Airfoil - All struts - Fix upper front cowl texture/mapping - FM details - DM It is now Saturday, 1:00pm. I started this plane Friday night at around 7:00 PM. **Update** -New prop fast added -Engine damage and fuel tank damage added -Sv's new Spandau guns added -FM tweaks -Gauges added (For playability) -Wing shading fixed by Razer -Hires texture support added -Seat added -New gunsite **Update PP4** -Gunsite removed -new FM -New pilot
