The design dominated the earlier years of WWI for the Allies. The Nieuport's design effectiveness was evidenced by the Germans developing the D. I aircraft who's design was a virtual copy of early captured Nieuports. Among the aircraft's most recognizable characteristics was the sesquiplane design incorporating a short cord length lower wing to increase visibility for the pilot. The best known of the Nieuports was the 17c1 known as "Silver Hawks" from the aluminum dope with which most where painted. This model was introduced into the war in May of 1916. Typical armament included a cowl mounted Vickers for the French and wing mounted Lewis machine guns on English warplanes. Used primarily for attacks on observations balloons, Nieuports were among the earliest warplanes to carry Le Prieur rockets. The 17c1 was powered by a 110-hp Le Rhone 9J rotary engine. The aircraft was known to have a competitive climb rate, rugged construction, and predictable agile handling. Among the Aces flying this type were Canadian Billy Bishop, and French Aces Charles Nungesser and George Guynemer. The aircraft were employed by the air wings of France, Belgium, Finland, Imperial Russia, Italy, Netherlands and America. The aircraft's 126lb fuel capacity provides for a little over one and a half hours of flight time. ***2.0 CONTENTS*** This ZIP file should contains the following- - Nieuport17c1 aircraft flyable object - LePrieur rocket weapon object - Hanger photos, description and mission - Take off training mission - Landing training mission - Air to Air combat training mission - LePrieur rockets training mission - German observation balloon ground object ***3.0 INSTALLATION*** - UnZIP this file in your main Fighter Squadron subdirectory making sure that you have "use folders" option enabled.
